The next Write That Story! workshop will run for 6 1/2 weeks, starting date Spring 2008 (exact dates TBA). Your final assignment will be due six and a half weeks after the start date. The
Registration deadline is TBA, although there are only ten
openings and registration will close when they are filled (a registration
form appears below). The workshop is generally offered only once per year.
The workshop follows a basic schedule: materials and assignments are
e-mailed on Sunday, and assignments are due on the following Sunday. The
message board is always available. Chat sessions take place every Thursday
night during the course from 10:00-11:00 p.m. Atlantic Time. Participation
in the chat sessions and on the message board are optional, but encouraged.
Participants can choose to receive materials as MSWord files, OpenOffice files, .rtf files or plain text files. Some additional readings
may be sent embedded in the body of an e-mail, but this does not work well
for longer documents. Likewise, assignments may be submitted in any of
these formats or as WordPerfect files, or check with me about other formats
which we may be able to accept.
The fee for the workshop is $50 $40 US. Canadian residents may pay $40
CDN. Payment may be made through Paypal or by postal money order. Paypal
(www.paypal.com) is free to use, secure, and convenient, and allows users to
send funds from their credit card or chequing account to anyone with an
e-mail address. Remember if you are sending a postal money order from outside Canada that you must send an INTERNATIONAL money order.
The Write That Story! workshop assignments are designed to break down the
process of writing your story into manageable chunks, and provide you with
feedback as you complete each part. Checklists and exercises highlight
things you should be considering while you write your story. While the
workshop does require a firm time committment for the duration of the
workshop, you need only write about 200 words per day to finish each
assignment on time and complete your story by the day it's due!
The workshop has the potential to be a productive, encouraging, and
enjoyable venture for all participants, and a unique opportunity to foster
your personal growth as a writer in a supportive environment. I truly hope
